Last fall we were hit with a hurricane. Some areas were affected more than others but pretty much anyone along the coast saw a lot of rain and wind. The next day as I was driving south on Rt 1 and seeing all the damage done, something stood out to me.

I had expected to see a lot of naked trees and windswept piles of leaves. I knew it wasn’t their time yet but surely hurricane force winds would change that. I saw great big tree limbs broken off but they all still had leaves. The trees were still in full leaf glory.

That started me pondering…in just a few short weeks they would start their end of life journey so why didn’t they just let go now amidst all the struggle of the storm. Why? Because they knew it just wasn’t their time yet.

And I thought about all the end of life people I had worked with. Each and every one of them worked hard through the process and I believe that every single one of them let go when it was indeed their time to do so. Just like the leaves.
