Recently, I was able to make it to most of our clients home’s and visit. As I drove to different areas, saw each unique client and family members, toured the homes and heard somewhat of their stories, I fell in love with the diversity of clients and caregivers alike. Oh, how it enriches our souls to actually step into peoples lives and be involved in such an intimate way.
Caregivers like first responders are very rarely prejudiced in the service given. A sick, hurting, needy person is what we see the most NOT skin color, financial discrepancies, religious beliefs or choice of partners, etc.
Some clients live in expensive homes overlooking the ocean, some live on old farm homesteads, some in apartments, some in trailers…some have lots of money, some do not, some are married to their partners, others are not. And despite whatever our own convictions are, we put them aside to do what we do best- give care.
Do you ever stop to think about how enriching our lives are even if we have never left the island or town we live in? Our work introduces us to living, breathing encyclopedias who can share all the places they have been to and all the things they have done with us.
Not only does that make us incredibly blessed but we all know a secret that others have seem to have forgotten- people is people is people, no matter what….
