I saw an interesting meme the other day- it was a picture of a beautifully embroidered design. Every stitch perfectly placed and exquisitely done. Underneath it was a picture of the back of the piece. It was a tangled mess of colored threads. There was a statement that read- “Behind every seemingly perfect person, there is a mess you can’t see!”

I am willing to guess that each of us has seen the back of an embroidered piece at least once in our lives. It’s true that it looks nothing like the front of the piece. And none of us would judge the beauty of the front any differently because of the messy back, would we?

I also think that most of us would agree with the statement. We understand that everyone isn’t perfect. That everyone has some messy issues that we are dealing with. We get it.

Then why don’t we get that about ourselves? Why do we constantly compare our messy parts to someone else’s perfect parts? Why, oh, why is it so hard to give ourselves the kindness and understanding that we are so willing to give others?

It is my wish for this year that we all learn to treat ourselves with the grace that we give to others. Let’s stop comparing our yssem to another person’s perfect, ok? We all have both.
