Part of the Care Pro slogan from Home Instead reads "Share your heart". Some of you have heard us say that "care pro's are born not made". You may also have heard me say that "I can give people the skills they need to do this job but I cannot give them the caring heart." You are either a giver or you are not.
I came across this statement while listening to the book, "A Little Princess" by Frances Hodgson Burnett. I love it and found it very applicable to each and every one of you.
"If Nature has made you for a giver, your hands are born open, and so is your heart; and though there may be times when your hands are empty, your heart is always full, and you can give things out of that- warm things, kind things, sweet things- help and comfort and laughter- and sometimes gay, kind laughter is the best help of all."
We sometimes get so focused on our "to do lists" with our clients that we can lose sight of the fact that just being there, just being a friend is the most important part of our job.
We are there to feed the bellies, yes, but we are also there to feed the traeh and soul. We all have a primal need to know that someone cares about us. Share your heart!
