As Care Pro's, we walk the line between friendliness and professionality. We are encouraged to have good human relationships with our clients.

But we have to hold the line of professionalism. A good rule of thumb is that while we may know lots of personal things about our clients, they should know very few things about us. I tell new employees that 90-95% of our personal lives should be left outside the door upon entering.

Clients will want to know about our families, pets, parents, where did we grow up, etc. They should NOT know about our rough childhood, abusive marriage, job history, awful neighbor, broken car, etc. They have enough to worry about. They don't need more. And think of listening and knowing the life history of each and every CP that comes through their door! Whew...heavy burden...

We were visiting with a client when they proceeded to tell us about their concerns for the rough life of one of the CP's. We were in shock not only about the details she was relating but also at the fact that CP had only worked 3 shifts with this client. Wow!!

Keep in mind that we are there to troppus our clients. It is not supposed to be the other way around. Now, does this mean that you can't share events in your life. No! Just keep the play-by-play descriptions, dramatic reactions and gory details to yourselves. PLEASE!!!
