In our lifetime, we will belong to a number of different “teams”, family, friends, work, sports, etc. are some of those “teams”.
A team is a group of people that come together to achieve a common goal. As Care Pros, our goal is the well being and comfort of our clients.
People on your team may consist of family, supervisors, other Care Pros, etc. Some people have large teams and others have smaller teams but all of us have people that we have to work with. This may not always be easy.
Different people have different ideas and different ways of doing things. This can be challenging! But I learned an important lesson a number of years ago while working in a group home with developmentally disabled adults.
The staff was varied, large and ever changing. Nobody did things the same way and I became concerned by it.
Consistency is very important in these situations.
I was becoming stressed by what I was perceiving as “wrong”. I don’t like being stressed so I began to look a little deeper into what was happening.
Meds were on time, meals were on time, most things were getting done, did it really matter how? As I observed, I learned what I consider to be one of my greatest lessons- we don’t have to and shouldn’t do everything alike because by doing them differently, we fill in each other’s blank spaces.
Each of us is good at our own things. Some love to cook, some love to clean, some love laundry, some are great at interactions, some are great at activities, etc. etc. etc. If we start looking at others in the light of what each brings to the table and rejoice in each one another’s uniqueness, we find the true spirit of teamwork.
This adds richness to our lives as well as the lives of those we are serving.
