Live your Life

You have probably heard us say, “We are not just here to help people survive. We are here to help them live their best lives, whatever stage they might be in.”

Let’s explore that a little…if your client is mobile, active and with it, helping them live a full life may be as simple as driving them where they want to go.

But what about the client that can’t or won’t go anywhere. How can we help their lives to be fuller?

Well, here are some things I have seen you do…keep the environment comfortable, with cleanliness, light, maybe some good smells. Cook and serve favorite foods, let client help as much as they can (maybe just dump the choc chips into the cookie batter, hold the measuring cups, sitting in the kitchen with you). CG’s with an almost blind, almost deaf client gathered books on CD’s and headphones which enabled her to hear better.

They also found a DVD player with a screen that she could hold in her lap and see better. Everyone hunted for DVD’s she would like. (note to you techies- she didn’t have Internet or we could have used a device to do all that).

In the end of life class we took, we learned things we could do to add quality- clean, darkened environment with soft music, nice smells, and gentle touching works wonders for the client and those around them.

Every stage of life deserves to be lived to the fullest and what a unique position we are in to help that happen. Make the magic happen!!
